Choosing medical devices for a connected-care program

Device choice shapes both the patient's routine and your team's workload. Start from the program, then confirm the exact models.

The decision to makeA familiar brand is a good starting point. The exact model, the patient experience and the fit with your program still need to be confirmed.

Define the program's needs first

List the measurements your program requires and where they will be taken. A device used by one person at home raises different questions from equipment shared in a care setting.

Clinical suitability is assessed by the qualified people responsible for the program, using manufacturer information. Connectivity is one part of the decision, not all of it.

Consider the daily experience

Look at every step needed to take a measurement: cuff size and placement, buttons, screen readability, batteries. Think about the people using it, their confidence with technology and whether help is available.

Discuss exact models with your partner

A category, a brand or a "connected" label doesn't establish that a device fits your program. Share the specifics:

  • Manufacturer and exact model references
  • The measurements your program needs
  • Where and by whom the devices will be used
  • Equipment you would like to keep

Keeping the devices patients already have

Patients who already own a device know how to use it. When those models are compatible, keeping them can make the transition easier. When they're not, plan how new devices will be introduced and explained.

Include the operational questions

Consider equipment preparation, onboarding, replacements and support alongside the purchase. Agree who is responsible at each point, and use a first deployment to observe where people need help.

Next step. Have a device list? Ask our team about it.
